Robert Wilkey Thuss, Sr. known to family as Papa, Pop, Dad and Sweetie, but never Bob, passed away at age 90 on October 1, 2026, after having way too much fun to stop. He was an adventurous, funny man with unbelievable balance which fueled his desire to try every new toy, especially ones involving water. He tried to take all the toys with him but his family got in front of that a few years ago and helped him lovingly saying goodbye to windsurfers, Air Chairs, vintage water skis, and other signs of a mischievous, courageous, and playful life.

He was devoted to Lucy, his wife of 65 years. He did everything in his power to give her joy and we'd say he succeeded tremendously. They both celebrated their 90th birthdays earlier this year with friends, family, laughter, and love. During their marriage they enjoyed traveling, seeing incredible sights and experiencing cultures around the world. They enjoyed lake living, their various dogs and cats, and being out in God's nature.

Robert dedicated his life to Jesus about four years into his marriage. He always explained that a group of Christians in New Orleans "loved him to the Lord", meaning he brought all his doubts, fears, anger, and cynicism and they responded with love. From then on he developed a close personal relationship with his Savior, the only one ranking above Lucy in his affection and devotion. He led and participated in a small Bible study group for 19 years. He loved to study and discuss scripture. One of our treasures is his Bible full of margin comments (including the dates) because the Lord's word always gave new wisdom throughout his journey of faith.

A true Southern gentleman, he inspired others to show respect, not sass their mamas and love generously. He spent many years in the Forsyth Georgia Rotary Club, in Cumming Georgia, and invested his time in social work, consignments, real estate and home improvement, all of which were rewarding to him.

He is survived by his wife Lucy, son Robert Jr., daughter Ellen, daughter-in-law Corinna and granddaughter Sydney. He loved them and his friends with a generous and forgiving heart. We will miss this unconventional, fun-loving, sweet man every day but his family knows this is a temporary separation. He is fully healed and joyfully reunited with the One who made him, gave His life for him, and loves him unconditionally.

Plans for a Celebration of Life, in-person and online, will be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to the following organizations that were close to his heart:

Imaniprogram.org - empowerment program for women in Kenya

Seedsofhopekenya.org - vocational training for men in Kenya
